Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

John's Pension and Effects records show that he died of wounds on 4 Oct 1917. The war diary does not record any wounded men between the 1st and 4th and so the most likely day he was wounded was 30th Sept 1917 when four men were wounded by an enemy artillery bombardment. The diary shows that at this time they were in the area of Chemical Works close to the Fampoux to Pouvain road. John was buried just north of Fampoux but we are unable to indentify at Field Ambulance or Casualty Clearing Station he was treated at.
