Frederick is listed as being killed in action on 24th October 1914. The 3rd Battalion war diary entries for the period 24th to 26th October are transcribed below.

23 Oct 1914 – Rue de Marais: New line occupied during night. Bn covered by rear guard & position in neighbourhood of La Quinque Rue, occupied it & continued to entrench. Some sniping.

[Casualties]: Rank & File 1 killed 5 wounded.

24 Oct 1914 - La Quinque Rue: In trenches – sniping and shelling at intervals.

[Casualties]: Rank & File 1 missing 3 wounded.

25 Oct 1914 - La Quinque Rue: Very heavy sniping and shelling – during the night the enemy advanced trenches 50 yards closer to right.

[Casualties]: Rank & File 1 killed, 1 missing, 3 wounded.
