The 3rd Battalion war diary entries for the period 24th to 26th October are transcribed below. 23 Oct 1914 – Rue de Marais: New line occupied during night. Bn covered by rear guard & position in neighbourhood of La Quinque Rue, occupied it & continued to entrench. Some sniping. [Casualties]: Rank & File 1 killed 5 wounded.24 Oct 1914 - La Quinque Rue: In trenches – sniping and shelling at intervals. [Casualties]: Rank & File 1 missing 3 wounded.25 Oct 1914 - La Quinque Rue: Very heavy sniping and shelling – during the night the enemy advanced trenches 50 yards closer to right. [Casualties]: Rank & File 1 killed, 1 missing, 3 wounded. |
