Circumstances of Death

Charles died of Enterica (Typhoid) on 15th October 1916 at one of the eighteen General and Stationary hospitals that were based in Thessaloniki.

  • An article in the Wellington Journal on 23 May 1903 reported that Charles had been given a prize by his Headmaster for never missing
    a single day or being late for school in the 9 years he was there, something the Headmaster thought must be a record in the UK.
     
  • At some stage after 1916 Charles's widowed mother Martha moved to Carlton, Handsworth Road, Coventry which is not far from Berkswell
     
  • In Oct Qtr 1921 Charles' sister Annie married Ernest John Cox of Berkswell in Clun
