Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Allen is listed as being killed in action on 3 Dedc 1915. The Battalion War Diary for that time shows that on 30 Nov 1915 they relieved the 7th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps in the front lines on the La Brique salient. The entry for 3 Dec 1915 is transcribed below and it is assumed that Allen was killed during the below mentioned shelling:

'Very quiet day and night except for heavy shelling on trench S.15 in the morning. The question of retaliation by artillery, which was formerly very erratic and unorganisted was discussed between the C.O and the artillery commander last night'.
