Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The battalion and the wider 100 Brigade were tasked with capturing the village of Fontaine-les-Croisilles and three other objectives. 1) a crossing over the Sensee River; 2) a position at the Junction of Sensee River and Sunken Road (yellow line) and 3) a boundary line between map points (red line). It is not clear if all the objectives but at the end of the day the battalion has consolidated a line about 300 yards from the original jumping off point. William was one of 168 men listed as missing during the attack along with 22 killed and 101 wounded.Click to expand
