Circumstances of Death
Charles is listed as dying of wounds on 18 June 1915 and his remains are said to be buried in Skew Bridge Cemetery, Turkey. However Royal Navy document records his dying of wounds on 18 Jun 1915 at the 21st General Hospital at Ras-el-Tin Barracks in Alexandria, Egypt. The Battalion war diary states that the Battalion was in bivouac at Cape Helles from 7 Jun 1915 and before that in the lines at Krithia. We are unable to say when Charles was wounded and indeed there is some doubt about where he died. |
