Circumstances of Death
Aylmer was discharged on 17 Jul 1919 with Malaria which he contracted in Salonika which caused the consumption that he died from. He died on 17 Aug 1920 at 21 Victoria Street, Warwick. Aylmer's death was reported in the Warwick Advertiser on 21st August 1920 as follows: DEATH OF MR. AYLMER MONCK - We regret to announce the death of Mr. A.A. Monck of 27 Victoria Street which occured early on Wednesday morning after an illness extending over ten months. The late Mr. Monck, who was 26, enlisted for war service in 1914 [12 Aug 1914] being one of the first of Messrs Alfred Herberts apprentices to respond to Lord Kitcheners appeal for recruits, and was a Sapper in a Signal Co of the Royal Engineers. He served in France, Belgium, Salonika, Egypt and Palestine and was in the Army of Occupation on the Rhine. While he was in Salonika he contracted malarial fever which brought on consumption from which he died. |
