Circumstances of Death

Edward is listed as being killed in action on 3 Nov 1914 and the brief 1st Battalion war diary entry for the period 1st to 7th Nov 1914 is transcribed below:

1st to 7th Nov - Trenches at La Touquet: Occuping same position as in Appendix VI [Trenches at La Touquet]. Our firing line has made repeated demands for more men and there are only two platoons left in Reserve. Total length of the line held by the Battalion is 2400 yards. The German's continuted to sap towards us and to construct new trenches. Occassional half hearted attempts on their part to attack were defeated without trouble. There were probably more in the nature of reconnaissances by strong patrols. END
