Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The war diary shows that Hubert was wounded on the 10th Feb 917 when the battalion were in Front Line & Crown trenches close to Combles and on the 10th the battalion had moved from Guillemont to relieve 7th Somerset Light Infantry in those trenches. There was a heavy bombardment during the relief operation which caused Hubert's wounds.

Grove Town Cemetery was used by the 34th and 2/2nd London Casualty Clearing Stations and so Hubert would have died at one of those places.

We have yet to find the Gazette entry and/or citation for Huberts military medal award.
