Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

John and the 1st/1st took part in the ultimately succesful attack on the Turkish lines known at the Charge at Huj and/or The Affair of Huj during which the 1st/1st took part in what is described as the one of the last Cavalry Charges carried out by the British Army.

John was wounded during the charge on the 8th and died four days later on the 12th and he was buried in Egypt at Beersheba.
