Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Herbert died as a prisoner of war at Aachen POW Camp on 31 Mar 1918. He had been captured at Cambrai on the 22nd March 1918. The war diary states the battalion was at Beaugnatre and suffered zero casualties that day. On the 23rd they were at Beugny and suffered 5 wounded by shell fire. On the 24th the battalion was heavily attacked and nearly overrun while suffering 490 casualties in the area of W Beugny and Fremicourt. We will leave the reader to decide the correct day of capture.
