HQ moved up to a new position in the old German First Line, immediately North of the ARRAS-GAVRELLE road. On reaching the trench several bursts of shrapnel were placed over the party and Lieutenant Colonel Whiteman was wounded, also the Adjutant, Sub Lieutenant Herbert. Lt Col Whiteman did not recover from those wounds and died on the 25th April at either the 30th or 42nd Casualty Clearing Station at Aubigny-en-Artois.
