Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The day before he was killed the battalion was in Flers Trench west of Turk Lane and Flers Support trench ready for the planned attack the next day. The day of the attack started at early and the allied artillery barrage finished at 3.40am and the battalion advanced towards their objectives north of their positions. Part of the battalion crossed the Sunken Road and entered the first enemy line of trenches and undertook a number of bombing raids and eventually captured the trench before consolidating and holding a line from the Sunken Road to the junction of Turk Lane and Front Line.![]() |
