Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
William was killed by a German Trench Mortar shell which exploded near him while on sentry duty in the area of Corons D'Aix in the Bethune sector. Otherwise the area was quiet and the war diary makes no mention of any attacks by either side except for occassional shellfire.
