Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
| Charles died of his wounds that were incurred during the heavy fighting over many days near Albert in the first phase of the Battle of the Somme. It has not been possible to identify with any certainty on which day he was wounded but the battalion spent a number of days engaged with the enemy at Contalmaison Wood near Bazentin le Petit. |
