Military Cross Award

The Military Cross was always awarded for 'an act or acts of exemplary gallantry during active operations against the enemy on land'. We have not yet estalished when and where he won the award.

Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

Jack is listed by the CWGC and other Army records as dying of wounds on 15th October 1918 and he is buried at Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension which was used by the 41st, 48th, 53rd and 58th Casualty Clearing Stations in October and November 1918.

However the very brief Battalion war diary seems to disagree with the date he died and is transcribed below:

12 [th] - 3pm. Moved to HONNECHY. Capt Pedlow killed and Lt. Boulter and Gaulter? wounded. The former died of wounds at Roisez. END
