Alfred is listed as being killed in action on 29th June 1918. The brief 8th Battalion war diary entries for the period 26th to 30th June are transcribed below. Warloy - 26 Jun 1918 - 11pm: Battalion relieved 7th Queens Regt in then right Battn sector. Front Line System - 30 Jun 1918 - 2.15am: In anticipation of artillery retaliation on the Brigade area in view of operations which were on 30.6.1918 by 54th Brigade on the left of the left sector the Battn spread out. Effective strength of the Battalion on 28.6.1918 see App XI [not fully readable - War Diary Ref WO 95/2045/1] Casualties during the month were: |
