Reginald is listed as being killed in action on 28th September 1916. The 7th Battalion war diary entries for the period 27th to 29th September are transcribed below. Schwaben Redoubt - 27 Sep 1916: Battalion attached to 53rd Inf Bde for operations. Operation orders received and issued for the attack on Schaben Redoubt and all preparations for same made. See Appendix II [not transcribed]. Schwaben Redoubt - 28 Sep 1916: Battn attacked Schwaben Redoubt at 1pm, gaining and holding the southern side of it. See Appendix III (click here for PDF) Schwaben Redoubt - 29 Sep 1916: Battn holding ground gained, continuous fighting at close quarters. At night Battn was relieved by 8th Bn East Surrey Regt and proceeded to North Bluff near Authville. Casualties during fighting of Sept 28 and 29:- Killed Capt H.L. Martin & wounded, Capt O.R. Heaton DSO; 2/Lts FG Fendall; C.C Hammond; W.J Short; G.F Philips; CW Rogers; A.G Gadd; A.N Scott; M.D. Thatcher (shell shock) and F.R. Lines (shell shock). OR; Killed 44: missing & killed 1; wounded 251; wounded and missing 1; missing 87: Total 384 |
