Circumstances of Death

Harry is listed as being killed in action on 5th December 1916. The 6th Battalion war diary entries for the 4th to the 6th December 1916 are transcribed below and reveal that Harry was killed by shellfire while he was in Suvla Trench.

N of Beaucourt – 4 Dec 1916: Enemy shelled Cemetery, shrapnel. Reserve Coy carrying rations. B Coy moved into outposts.

N of Beaucourt – 5 Dec 1916: Enemy shelled Suvla Trench, causing 1 killed & 2 wounded.

N of Beaucourt – 6 Dec 1916: Quiet. Our own artillery dropped some “shorts” into our own wire in front of Suvla Trench.
