Real Name
We are certain that John was born Edwin Charles Askem to George William ASKEM and Louisa KERSHAW. This is confirmed by his death certificate.
Military Service
- 3 Jan 1906 - enlisted as Pte 8815 in the East Lancashire Regiment under his real name Charles Edwin Askem
- 3 Apr 1906 - discharged from the Army on 3 April 1906 because he was "unlikely to become an efficient solider".
- 20 Nov 1906 - enlisted as Private 5058 John William Kershore, 4th Bn East Surrey Regiment. Details given as born 1886 in Battersea. Mothers name given as
Louisa Kershore. Enlisted in Kingston upon Thames - 10 Jan 1907 - transferred to 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers as Pte 9554
Circumstances of Death

John died of Acute Nephritis and Pyelonephritis on the 12th September 1915 in the The War Hospital in Stratford-upon-Avon aged 29.
The death certificate reveals that John was otherwise known as Edwin Charles Asken which would explain why we were unable to find any personal information records for John Kershore. |
