Hugh is listed as being killed in action on 4th October 1917. The 126th Brigade war diary entries for the period 1st to 4th October are transcribed below. Hugh was originally buried at map reference [28].C.11.c.8.5. a point just west of St. Julien, south of Langemarck, his remains were moved to Tyne Cot Cemetery on or about 2 Feb 1921.
Poelcapelle area - 1 Oct 1917: Major Pownie 2/A Bty was wounded in the arm Poelcapelle area - 2 Oct 1917: Bombs from Hostile aircraft were dropped in the Wagon Lines of 2/1st Bty as a result of which 49 ? were killed and wounded. Poelcapelle area - 3 Oct 1917: No diary entry made Poelcapelle area - 4 Oct 1917: Major C E Pittett was wounded in the leg. |
