Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The day before Arthur was killed the Battalion marched from the bivoaucs at Fremicourt to an assembly point near Hermies. At 6.15am on the 27th the battalion began moving east towards their targets at Premy Chapel and Marcoing. Despite encountering resistance from enemy machine gun fire the battalion made it to their objectives with A company reaching the outskirts of Marcoing. After heavy fighting involving the whole battalion, except A Coy, the position at Premy Chapel was taken however A Coy were outflanked and suffered heavy casualties from field gun fire. The battalion consolidating their positions at Premy. Arthur was killed during these actions.
