Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The battalion started the day in Casement Trench then they moved to Malz Horn trench and almost immediately moved again to a trench south of Angle Wood from where they were ordered to support the 1st Cheshire Regiment in an attack on enemy lines north of the trench, unfortunately they got the message too late to have an impact and the attack failed due to the 1st Cheshire having insufficient men. They then returned to the trench at Angle Wood until they were relieved by the 15th Bn Royal Warwicks and they returned to Casement Trench. At some stage throughout this Charles was killed
