  • His original service number given on medal roll is 2071 which was issued at some time between March 1913 (1756) & February 1914 (2110)

Circumstances of Death

William is listed as dying of wounds received in action on 25th October 1917 and he was buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension which was home to eight general, five stationary, one British Red Cross hospitals. His service record has not survived and we are not able to state which hospital he died at.

The 1st/7th Battalion war diary for October 1917 does not list casualties by name and we have, again, been unable to identify exactly when and/or where William was orginally wounded.

However the Leamington Spa Courier stated on 19th October 1917 that William had been severely wounded in the face and shoulder.
