Frank is listed as being killed in action on 27th October 1917. The 16th Battalion war diary entries for the period 26th to 28th October are transcribed below. Ridge Wood - 26 Oct 1917: 3.30pm: Message from Bde to say Battn will move to Bedford House as soon as possible. 5.15pm: Bn moved from Ridge Wood, on the way message received to say Battn will move to Sanctury Wood area and not to Bedford House an initial issue of explosives will be drawn at Beford House on the way. 9.45pm: Bn left Bedford House arriving at Stirling Castle at 11.50pm Stirling Castle - 27 Oct 1917: Bn at Stirling Castle. 4.25pm: 15th Infantry Bde OO 145 issued saying Bn will relieve 1st Cheshire Regt on left of Div front with 2 Coy’s. 2 Coy’s will be in support at the Tower and will be in Bde Reserve. Issued OO A&D Coys will relieve 1st Cheshires and B&C Coys in Bde Reserve at Tower. 8.30pm: Relief complete Stirling Castle - 28 Oct 1917: 2.50pm: 15th Infantry Bde OO 146 received saying on the night 28/29th the 15th Inf Bde will be relieved by the 95th Inf Bde & on relief 16th R War R will withdraw to Bedford House. Issued OO attached. Bn relieved by 12th Glosters. Relief complete 8.15pm |
