Circumstances of Death

Edwin is listed as being killed in action on 20th Septemeber 1918. The 14th Battalion war diary entry for that day is transcribed below. He was 1 of 3 men killed that day in two seperate incidents.

Trenches – Havrincourt Wood – 20th Sept 1918:  A Coy carried out 2 useful daylight patrols but did not obtain a prisoner.

1 OR killed and 3 wounded in the line

2 OR & 2 water cart horses killed on the Water Point E of Neuville.

At night the Brigade is relieved. Battalion is relieved by 1st D.C.L.I & withdraws into Rest Billets at Haplincourt, arriving there during early morning of 21st inst.

During the tour in the trenches Bn suffered 2 Officers and 55 OR casualties. 3 hot meals a day were sent up to all Coys in trenches.
