Joseph is listed as dying of wounds on 28 Aug 1918 and he was buried at Daours Cemetery. The battalion took part in attacks on enemy lines near Longueval and Delville Wood on 23rd, 24th, 25th, 27 and 28th Aug 1918 and it is believed that Joseph was wounded on one of those days. He would have died at one of the Casualty Clearing Stations that used Daours for burials at that time, they were the 5th, 37th, 41st, 53rd, 55th and 61st that were stationed at Veqcuemont and Daours. The 8th Battalion war diary contains 9 pages detailing the actions of the 23rd to 28th August and, as of 21 Jul 1918, it can be ordered, free of charge, from the National archives by clicking here.
