Our grateful thanks to Great War Forum user White Star Line Newspaper ObituaryWe deeply regret the fact that a telegram from the War Office has been received stating that Second Lieutenant W. D. Henderson, North Staffs Regiment, is reported missing from the 17th of November. Lieut Henderson was one of a number of young businessmen who gravitated to Hampton some 10 years ago. He was a member of various clubs - tennis, hockey, cricket, etc. For which Hampton prior to the war was noted. On the outbreak of the war he joined the 2nd Birmingham City Battalion [15th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment] and earned his Commission in the eighth N Staffs by his assiduity to training. He was 28 years of age, and had been at the Western Front since June last. He was engaged with the Birmingham firm of accountants who were retaining his position. The missing officer was the youngest son of the Rev. W. D. Henderson and Mrs. Henderson of Chorley, Lancashire for whom much sympathy is felt under this trying ordeal. His brother, Second Lieutenant H. Stuart Henderson is enrolled with the 4th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders |
