The 15th Battalion war diary entries for the period 25th to 27th September are transcribed below and show that William was killed or wounded on 26th September. Esquelbecq – 25 Sep 1918: The G.O.C Division presented ribbons to the Officers & OR’s awarded decorations. Major Erhmay left Battalion to fill the appointment of 2nd in Command 1st Royal Irish Rifles. Proven - 26 Sep 1918: Battalion moved up to Tunnellers Camp in the Proven area. The Battalion was shelled coming through Proven. Casualties: 1 killed, 39 OR wounded, 2 missing. Browne Camp - 27 Sep 1918: Battalion moved to Browne Camp. Orders received to be prepared to move in Battle Order from 10am 28th inst. |
