Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The battalion where in trenches near Noyelles when they were ordered to capture the German lines known as the Quarries. The attack started at 6.30am after the normal artillery barrage and the battalion captured the German front line trenches, the support trench and then moved onto The Quarries as far as St. Elie before taking up a line in a captured German trench 400 yards west of the Quarries. However it came at a heavy cost with 73 Killed, 274 Missing and 181 wounded which left them with 1 officer and 140 other ranks.| Personal & Family History |
