Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

WW1 Army medical records show that on 29 Jun 1916 a surgeon (name unreadable) operated on gun shot wounds to his back and armpit operated on at 2nd General Hospital in La Havre. He died 5 days later in the same hospital. It has not been possible to identify exactly when Charles was wounded, the 12th Battalion has spent to the whole of June 1916 in trenches and camps near Ypres and suffered total casualties of 18 other ranks killed and 69 wounded along with 1 officer killed and 1 wounded. A very brief report in the Kenilworth Advertiser on Saturday 8 July 1916 reports that Charles had been wounded during the previous week, however during that week there were separate actions on the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th July that could have resulted in Charles being wounded. |
