Arthur is listed as being killed in action on 30 October 1917, having initially been reported as missing in action. The very brief 28th Battalion war diary entries for the period 28th to 31st October are transcribed below. Reigersberg Camp – 28 Oct 1917: Battalion went into line, HQ at Albatross Farm, taking over from Nelson Battalion. Albatross Farm – 29 Oct 1917: In the line Albatross Farm – 30 Oct 1917: Battalion attacked [the enemy] Albatross Farm – 31 Oct 1917: Relieved by Nelson Battalion [Royal Naval Division] & returned to Irish Farm. Total estimated casualties for the period 28th to 31st. Officers Killed 6 & Wounded 4; Other ranks Killed 70, Wounded 130 & Missing 124. |
