Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
|
Harold is listed as being killed in action on 9 May 1918. We have not discovered any real information about how Harold was killed. The war diary and Operational order for the period 8th to 11th May 1918 show that the battalion were in the front lines on the south bank of the Canal D' Aire a la Basse at Douche Creme Farm which is just NNW of Mont Bernanchon where he is buried. The war diary entry is transcribed below: Front Line - 8th to 11th [May 1918]: Each [day] was very quiet, during the night our artillery carried out harrassing fire and gas was projected against Cornet Malo. On the evening of the 11th the battalion was relieved by the 1st Bn King's Own R.L. Regt [Royal Liverpool] and moved back to billets in Busnettes. END |
