Two newspaper reports show that Frank was injured in January 1918 when he was accidentally bayonetted in the foot during bayonet practice OR he sprained his ankle during training, and he was bedridden in the Military Hospital in Ryde, I.O.W. The injury became infected with Tuberculosis and in March 1918 he had to have his leg amputed. He then spent the next two years in hospital in Ryde, London before being moved to Birmingham in September 1918 where he remained until his death. Frank eventually died on 16th August 1919 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis at Holymoor Military Hospital, Northfield, Birmingham. |
