Original Enlistment
Harry, service number 2462, enlisted sometime between 7 Jan 1913 when service number 2253 was issued and 9 Jun 1914 when service number 2539 was issued.
Circumstances of Death

Harry is listed as dying of wounds on 27 Jan 1915 only 22 days after arriving at the front. He was buried at Rue-David Military Cemetery which was not used by any Casualty Clearing Stations and it is therefore assumed that he died soon after being wounded. The 2nd Battalion war diary for the period 23rd to 27th January 1915 are transcribed below. 23rd Jan 1915 – Sunshine & frost. In billets – digging fatigues 24th Jan 1915 – Sunshine & frost. In billets – digging fatigues 25th Jan 1915 – Fine morning. Relieved 2/Queens Regt in the trenches 26th Jan 1915 – Fine frosty morning. Draft of 60 men arrived and posted. Enemy shelled trench in afternoon. 3 men killed, 4 wounded 27th Jan 1915 – Fine frosty day. 1 man killed in trenches. |
