Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Frank took part in a raid on enemy lines at NE of Richebourg, unfortunately the raid failed after men from the Royal Engineers who were carrying Bangalore Torpedos to clear a way through wire defences became casualties. The battalion suffered 38 casualties in the raid.

On the day he was killed Frank the day had began at Croix-Barbee with a practise run of a planned raid the battalion moved to jump off positions in Lansdowne, Port Arthur and Pioneer trenches marked in blue on the map below to carry out the actual attack on the enemy line between the red markers.
