Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
Frederick is listed as being killed in action on 19th August 1917, the war tells us that on that day the battalion was in the front lines near St. Julien to the east of Steenbeek. At 10am an enemy (spotter) plane flew over their positions and soon after they were hit by a heavy artillery barrage which caused casualties of 2 officers and 45 other ranks. Frederick would have been one of those casualties.
