Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

The battalion were in involved in the attack on Mametz and the capture of the position known as Dantzig Alley. The battalion suffered over 300 casualties, including Montague, but were involved in one of the few successful operations on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. More here
