Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
No war diary appears to exist for this period but the day on which Cecil was killed was the first day of the massive German Spring Offensive otherwise called the Battle of St. Quentin. By the 6th April 14th Division had suffered 5781 casualties and all the units in it, including Cecil's were withdrawn from the line. Cecil's battalion was disbanded on 11 Apr 1918 and reformed in June 1918..
