Service History and Circumstances of Death

Frederick is listed as dying of wounds on 20th April 1917 and was buried at the Deir el Belah War Cemetery which was used by Field Ambulances and, from April 1917 by the 53rd, 54th, 66th and 74th Casualty Clearing Stations, and the 69th General Hospital.

Service History

  • August 1914 - Enlisted at Warwick as Pte 2280 with brother George Pte 2281
  • 20 Apr 1915 - Arrived in Egypt having sailed from Devonport and eventually billeted at Chatby Camp
  • 14 Aug 1915 - Sailed from Egypt to Gallipoli, aboard HMT Ascania with brother George, as part of the first continigent of the 1st/1st to arrive there
  • 18 Aug 1915 - Arrived off the coast of Turkey at Suvla Bay and disembarked under fire onto the beaches there.
  • 24 Nov 1915 - Having survived the subsequent fighting Frederick sailed from Gallipoli to Alexandria where they arrived on 28 Nov 1915
