Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)           

Medical records for the 31st Ambulance Train show that Henry was admitted to the train at Ytres, Arras on 10 Dec 1917 with multiple gunshot wounds. He was then taken to Abbeville which was 100km away. At that time the No 3 and No 5 stationary hospitals were based in Abbeville and he would have been treated at one of them before succumbing to the wounds 18 days later on 28 Dec 1917.

It is known that the 48th Casualty Clearing Station was based at the Etricourt – Ytres railway siding between May 1917 to March 1918. The 21st CCS was also nearby at Ytres between June 1917 and March 1918.

The war diary places the 2nd/7th Battalion in the Hindenberg Line / Metz area in the days leading up to the 10th Dec, Metz is directly east of the CCS's at Ytres. The most likely day that Henry was wounded was the 5th December 1917 when the Battalion front lines on Welsh Ridge (SW of Cambrai) were attacked by German infantry. In the days prior and subsequent to the 5th there is no mention of any fighting except for artillery bombardments.
