Circumstances of Death
Frank is listed as being killed in action on 17th November 1917. The 2nd Battalion war diary entries for the 16th, 17th and 18th are transcribed below. Wieltje, Ypres 16-11-17: The battalion marched to Caestre where they entrained. The Battaion detrained at Ypres and marched into Bivouacs at C. Camp Wieltje. Passchendaele Sector, Ypres 17-11-17: The Battalion moved into the line NW of Passchedaele relieving the 47th Canadian Inf Battalion. 1st Division on the left, 2nd Lincolnshire on right. Heavy shelling on Battalion front during relief and throughout the night. Passchendaele Sector, Ypres 18-11-17: Battalion remained in the line and were heavily shelled, the enemy several times putting down intense barrages. During the night the Battalion advanced their line in the centre, straightening out a reentrant, without any opposition. |
