Ecoust St. Mein - 26/5/1917: Fired on roads & ? in enemy area.

1.20pm: Explosion of ammunition dump if D Battery causing death of Capt. H.B. Gallimore and 10 other ranks. 2/Lt G. Hardy and 3 other ranks seriously wounded. The explosion was caused by a spark from a gun wheel was fired the Naffia fishing net camouflage covering the gun pit caught and the charges flared up. Meantime Officer and Nos 1 hurried up to extinguish it with earth and spades and 3 minutes after the fire began the shells blew up. One gun shield and carriage destroyed, another gun slightly damaged.
