War Diary

Vierstraat - 1917 Feb 25th: Weather dull and overcast. Inter Company relief in front line. D Coy being relieved by C Coy. Our artillery quiet during the day. Enemy showed no sign of activity.

Warwick Advertiser - 17 Mar 1917

Councillor J. Eborall of Warwick has received the following letter from an officer in regard to death of his son Second-Lieutenant J.A. Eborall:-

"I thought you would like to hear from me, as I was in the same Company as your son. We were all very upset at losing him. He was very popular with us all and had done some good work for the Battalion. He was wounded bringing half the company up to the front line after one of our raids. He had to come through a barrage on the front line and was hit by a bit of whiz-bang which exploded on the parapet. I went to him as soon as I could get along and found him unconcious and bandaged him up. I thought we could save him, but unfortunately he died on the way to the dressing station without once gaining consciousness."

Second-Lieutenant Eborall is buried in La Clytte Military Cemetery, Dickebusch, south-east of Ypres.
