Circumstances of Death

Phillip is listed as being killed in action on 26 Apr 1918.  However his Grave Registration document states he was buried at Cinq Rues on the 24th April. The 15th Battalion war diary does not list any casualties during the month of April. The war diary entries for the period 22rd to 26th April are transcribed below.

Mouse Trap Farm - 22/23 April 1918: Battalion was relieved by 2nd Irish Rifles in the line and withdrew into support with Bn HQ at Foch Farm.

Foch Farm - 23 April 1918: Battalion was relieved [from Support Line] by 1st Royal Irish Rifles and withdrew to Siege Camp into Brigade Reserve

Siege Camp - 24 April 1918: In Brigade Reserve

Siege Camp - 25 April 1918: Lt Col R.D.P. Maxwell, DSO ordered to proceed to London under instructions to report to War Office, and was struck off strenght of Battn.  Lt. Col. R.C. Smythe, DSO, R Innis Fus took over command of the Battn.

Siege Camp - 26 April 1918: Battalion moved up to Canal Bank into Brigade Support.

Canal Bank - 27 April 1918: Canal Bank in Brigade Support.
