Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)

The war diary entry for the 15th August was not made but it is known from the diary on the 16th that on the 15th the Battalion were in the front lines at Venheule Farm on a line SW of St. Julien and NE of Weiltje in preparation for an attack on the first day of the Battle of Langemarck. It is presumed that Frederick was killed by enemy shelling of those positions but that cannot be confirmed. The battalion objectives appear to have been to secure a position SW of St. Julian
