IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM BASCOTE HEATH and STONEY THORPE
WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918
| W.A. BLELOCH | E. BLOXHAM | D.R. HILLIER |
| D.O. HILLIER | A. O. T. IZZARD | T. A. MARKHAM |
| ~ | W.W. MORRIS [MORTON] | ~ |
The first of the three plinths below the Memorial Cross contains an inscription that is barely readable but we know it says:
OUR DEAD LIE SCATTERED FAR AND WIDE ON PLAIN & MOUNT AND SEA
BUT SINCE FOR THEE THEY FOUGHT AND DIED THEY SURELY REST WITH THEE
|
Please note: The last name on the Memorial is W.W. Morton however a newspaper report in the Warwickshire Advertiser on Saturday, February 19th, 1921 lists the names on the memorial and all the names match the memorial except that W.W. Morris is listed instead of W.W. Morton. Given the information above it is clear that the name Morton has been mistakenly added instead of Morris. Therefore for the below listed reasons we firmly believe that the W.W. Morton listed on the memorial is in fact W.W. Morris
