Circumstances of Death

Irvine is listed as being killed in action on 21 Jun 1917. War Diaries for the Indian Campaign are not available. Research shows that on the day he was killed Major Harte was the supervising officer of the Mahindradal Regiment at Nanu Pass, Waziristan, where Indian and British forces were fighting the Mahsud, a Pashtun tribe, on the North-West Frontier. The British and Indian troops attacked, and captured, the Nanu Pass. During the fighting on the left flank Maj Harte was killed and 45 other ranks killed or wounded. |
