Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
On 12 Jan 1916 the 82nd Field Company were working on trench breastwork defences at Cour St. Vaast when, per the war diary Sapper Pearson H R was wounded by a bullet from a fixed German rifle or machine gun. He was taken to the 1st/2nd London Casualty Clearing Station at Merville and and died of his wounds two days later on 14 Jan 1916. In a letter to Hubert's parents his Major said "During the time your son was with this Company he showed splendid qualities as a worker and a soldier... I consider his death is a very great loss to the Company the whole company mourns his loss".| Personal & Family History |
