Circumstances Leading to Death (Normally from War Diary)
The war diary for 23 Mar 1918, the day Sidney was killed, did not survive, we can say that the Battalion were in the Corps reserve at Manancourt when, on the 21st March, the German offensive began. By the 23rd the Germans were upon them and they were forced to retreat suffering heavy casualties.
